Description
The Engineering Manager is a key leadership role responsible for assisting the AVP Solution Engineering in managing the budget, resources, delivery quality, processes, and governance within the solution engineering department. This position requires a combination of technical expertise, managerial skills, and strategic vision to ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
Main duties and responsibilities
1. Budget Management:
- Assist the AVP Solution Engineering in developing and managing the engineering department budget.
- Monitor expenses, identify variances, and implement corrective actions as necessary to ensure adherence to budgetary constraints.
- Collaborate with finance and other relevant stakeholders to forecast resource requirements and optimize spending.
- Collaborate with regional leadership in identifying resource needs and associated costs
2. Resource Management:
- Work closely with project managers and team leads to allocate resources effectively across projects.
- Assess staffing needs, recruit qualified candidates, and onboard new team members.
- Foster a culture of professional development and mentorship to enhance the skills and capabilities of the engineering team.
- Escalation point for resourcing issues and conflict management
3. Delivery Quality:
- Establish and enforce best practices, standards, and quality assurance processes to ensure the delivery of high-quality products and services.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and issues, and implement mitigation strategies to maintain delivery schedules and meet quality standards.
- Conduct regular reviews to evaluate project performance and identify areas for improvement with PMO and Solution Engineering practice leaders.
4. Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, optimize processes, and eliminate inefficiencies within the engineering department.
- Lead initiatives to implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies that enhance productivity and effectiveness.
- Solicit feedback from team members and stakeholders to continuously improve processes and practices.
5. Governance:
- Establish and enforce governance frameworks, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and organizational standards.
- Monitor adherence to governance guidelines and escalate issues or non-compliance incidents as necessary.
- Collaborate with legal, compliance, and risk management teams to mitigate legal and regulatory risks associated with engineering activities.
Experience
- 2+ year’s experience in managing a 30+ member solutions engineering team focused on project services
- 8+ years of experience in the software/solutions engineering industry
- Experience working with multi country, multi cultural teams and clients
- Be mobile between development centers and client locations
- Background in Software engineering, Devops or Quality engineering during the initial 3 years of the career
Technical knowledge
- Extensive know-how in enterprise software development methodologies including tooling
- Excellent understanding of cloud-based ecosystems such as AWS, Azure and/or Google Cloud
- Experience in developing and delivering cloud-based products and services
- Ability to adapt to different technology environments
- Resource forecasting, planning, recruitment and management
- Project management certification will be an advantage
- Knowledge in ERP extension and integration development will be an advantage
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering/ Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Proven experience in project management, with a focus on budget management, resource allocation, and project delivery.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to drive process improvement initiatives and implement best practices.
- Experience with governance frameworks, compliance requirements, and risk management principles.
- Proficiency in project management tools and methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
